Final Portfolio

My Final Portfolio contains three out of our four pieces of writing: my final paper 4 which I revised with my peer corrections and professor corrections, my paper 2 where I revised my paper using my peer and professor corrections and my paper 1 was my major re-write. I choose to use these three papers because it reflects the work I put into the class and how my work has changed over the quarter. I choose to revise my paper 4 because I felt as if it was a pretty good paper that just need tweaked a little bit. Due to the fact that I had been in English 151 for 8 weeks by the time I began writing my final paper I felt as if my knowledge for the class had grown. My paper 2 was an improvement from my first paper but I still felt as if their was some necessary revisions to be made so I made those appropriate changes. My paper 1 was my major re-write because I felt as if I didn't have a feel for the class and for what my professor was looking for but hopefully after making corrections and doing a lot of editing my paper 1 will be a better paper.

My argument to change my grade in the class from a B to an A is that I worked very hard in the class and there was never a time when I turned in a assignment late or not at all. I went to all of the classes and was always on time. I feel as if after this English class my writing style and ability has improved and I am hoping that it continues to improve. In high school my English skills were very structured around the format that the teacher gave about the paper after this class I have learned to think more outside of the box and that it is not always necessary to follow all rules regarding the guidelines of a paper. I hope you can see from my work and by always doing all of the assignments you assigned that I deserve an A for the class instead of a B.

I feel as if I have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge from this class that I will take forward with me into my future college classes. After going through your class I feel as if I have learned a lot about writing that I did not know before as annoying as I thought reading those articles in Writing About Writing was they helped me learn a lot of new information. I really enjoyed your class and I am glad that I had you as my English 151 teacher you helped broaden my horizons about the world of writing.

Paper 4 Final

My paper is discussing the amount of money school districts have and with the amount of money your district has affects what technological advancements your students can receive. The teaching staff also plays a major role in the students educational understandings of their literacy opportunities. I supported this evidence from showing points of a variety of authors that took on different stances on the issue. I supported this claim by showing many points that prove that money isn't everything and that you don't need money to have a good school good schools are based on the teachers money just helps improve students educational opportunities. The counter arguments that I tried to bring into my article was the fact that people are admit on technology being the center of education and they should focus on the basic fundamentals and than tie in technology and not to ambush students into the world of technology. But also that all of my sources have different views on the topics related to money within a school, the technological advancements, the teaching staff, and students home life. After my peer edit I took into consideration adding in a few paragraphs to talk more about the counter arguments and more about the objections to my topic. I also re-arranged some of my sentences, removed some sentences, and edited some of my sentences. After the peer edit I feel as if my paper flows better together and that the overall structure of my paper has improved.

Paper 4 Peer Edit for Elyse

http://www.scribd.com/doc/84424064

Elyse,

I understood the main point of your paper to be that teachers only focuses on what is known about a paper and they do not think about the important aspect of creativity within your writing. You had great supporting arguments you tied in a variety of different arguments and they all tied together very well. Also that everyone does write differently but it is important to be able to put your own spin on creativity within your writing. I liked how you tied in the definition's of creative and creativity because it helped when you went into what you think of creativity as. I thought that the conversation within your paper was excellent and that it flowed together very well. I thought your paper meet a lot of the requirements for the paper, it was hard to find major things to point out since Mr. Whicker went over your paper in class. I mainly just saw a few small errors and than some wording was a bit confusing and just some minor corrections. You covered all of the elements asked for this paper very well and I thought you conclusion was an excellent end to your paper and it tied up all of the loose ends. You did a great job good luck sending your paper off to the publication.

Paper 4 Rough Draft

My paper was discussing the affects of that technology has on a variety of schools and in turn the literacy affects it has on the students. What affects the students literacy understanding ability teachers, money, location etc. The parts of my paper that are working well are the break down of sources. The parts I don't think that work as well are the transitions between the introduction and conclusion before they go into the major body of my paper. I would like readers to point out anything that they think aren't working well. If I was given more time I would like to go more in debt into the research process.

Paper 4 Introduction

Through this paper I want to know does money and the teaching staff play a role in students literacy understanding and in turn does the school they attend play a major role in their literacy understanding abilities. The many authors I have discovered through my research have taken many sides on this discussion. If you are attending a school that has lots of money and has good teachers you will gain an amazing education. Its not about the school you attend its about what your teachers are willing to put into their students. There is the no child left behind act and through this discussion its not as if a child is left behind but some teachers may just simply not care and just put on an act so they don't lose their job. Through this paper I will show the affects of teachers and money throughout many different school districts.

Homework #17

Summary to Penrose & Geisler
In their article "Reading and Writing without Authority" they examine the differences between text first year students and doctoral student written about the same subject. Penrose and Geisler argue that even though first year students vs doctoral students writing does differ. First year students are more credibly than the doctoral students. They examine the differences between students reading and writing elements and the affects there teachers and surrounding have on them.
Questions 3-5
3. Janet's informational-transfer model of knowledge is more high school based to where you are given specific guidelines and you must follow them for your writing assignment. Roger's constructivist model of knowledge is more of a writing about what you already know and what information you can find out.
4. I think this was the case because because she is a freshman english student and hasn't discovered that it is important to use author's in a credibly manor and that she is still using sources in her paper like she would in high school. I think she just wanted to get the assignment done and she lacks credibility in her reading and the use of valid sources within her writing.
5. I would have to say I am in between there writing model's of knowledge because the type of model of knowledge through writing that I use depends on the assignment I am given. If I feel as if I am given more freedom within the assignment than I write more  like Roger's but if I am given an assignment with strict guidelines I write more like Janet.
Meta Moment
One thing I will take away from this article is that the way you sound and come off to readers through your writing is the level of confidence people with think that you wrote with while writing your paper. Another thing I will take away is that you need to sound experienced and knowledgeable through your writing so people see that you come off as a credibly source through your writing.
Response to Penrose & Geisler
I found this article very useful to read and I think it will help out a lot with writing a successful paper 4. I will take a lot of the information in this article into my future writing. After reading this article I understood that authority and confidence plays an important role in your writing to make your writing credibly so that others will believe what you are saying.
