Summary's
In Anne Lamott article Shitty First Drafts she discusses that it is important to write your first draft and write complete crap that no one reads and than you second draft is and okay draft but it still needs editing and than your third draft is the final draft.
In Stephen King's article What Writing Is he talks about using the idea of telepathy when writing so that you can think about other things while writing to pull in different ideas into your paper.
In Allegra Goodman article Claming the Inner Critic and Getting to Work she talks about how that when you are writing a paper and that you need to pick out the good voices in your head to put into your paper and than that you can sorta out the bad ones in your head and just go with your gut. Confidence is key in writing the best paper you can.
In Kent Haruf's article To See Your Story Clearly, Start by Pulling the Wool over Your Own Eyes he talks about how unique the writing process is and that everyone has a different writing style or a way that they write.
In Susan Sontag's article Directions: Write, Read, Rewrite. Repeat Steps 2 & 3 as Needed when you write a paper you shouldn't just stick to the traditional write, read, revise. You should write one paper and than write another paper and than you should pick the best one.
In Junot Diaz's article Becoming a Writer he talks about his story of becoming a writer and how at times he gave up and that he got down on himself but in the end he prevailed and became a good writer.
Using These Essays
With all 6 of these different articles I did not find any of their writing processes similar. They all have different styles of how they write and they all struggled at some point to get through there writings but now they are successful writers. Yes, Tony would benefit from reading these articles. Tony did struggle with writers block like Diaz did but other than that I couldn't find anything else.
Meta Moments
1. One thing I found useful in these articles is that Lamott says to write three drafts to weed out your paper and write the best paper. Another thing I found useful is that Haruf says that everyone has a unique writing process so if you have some weird ritual that you do before writing a paper it may help you write a better paper since we are all different. Also in King's article about using telegraphy while writing that way when you space out into a different place if you can pull ideas into your paper from other places in your head than do so.
2. I will take into consideration some of the information I have taken from reading all of these articles. But a lot of the information they talked about I do some of and have considered and or heard about already. Writing is a process and as you get older and mature theoretical you should improve your writing skills.
Response
All of these articles are very similar and they all tie into the different writing concepts people use to write a good paper. Reading all of these articles was useful to me considering our next paper is about how we write a paper. Reading this articles helped me to see that people do so many different things to write a good paper.

Homework #9
Ransom Summary
In her article How Do I Write she explains how she writes and what she does while and when she is writing and she also explains how her writing shaped her into the writer she has become.
Other Questions to Consider
1. The thing I found most interesting in this chapter was her findings of time constraints because I find myself waiting to the last minute to write a paper because I feel like all my thoughts flow together better and that when writing a paper I work better under pressure.
2. Yes, I think that taking notes leads to writing which in turn leads to thinking. I think that while writing it is important to explore all information that way it leads you to thinking about and how to write the best paper you possibly can.
Ransom Response
I thought the structure of how she writes her papers will help me write my papers to come and I found this article very helpful and will use it in the future for my writings.
Harris Summary
In his article Composing Behaviors of One-and Multi-Draft Writers he explains the differences between being a single drafter or a multi drafter and that the more times you revise a paper the better that it will become.
1. I feel as if I am in between a multi drafter and a single drafter I write a paper once and read over and typically edit and rewrite it and than I have a friend read it and add in there corrections before turning it in. But I would never completely scrap a whole paper unless I thought it was complete crap. I know this because this is my typical pattern for writing a paper for class.
2. If you are a single drafter you may miss out on important things that you have forgotten in your first draft that you would have caught if you write multiple copies. If you a multi drafter when you are writing you can go off on a whim and not pay attention to what you are writing about and write about complete crap and than you have to scrap your original paper to write a new one.
Harris Reflection
I found this article very useful because it made me think about how I write a paper and that how the way I write a paper affects my writing style and skills. Now after reading this I will always write at least one draft more than a single draft so that I can write a better paper.

Homework #8
Summary
In the article Tuning, Tying, and Training Texts: Metaphors for Revision Barbara Tomlinson discusses eight different types of metaphors and how she uses them to explain her revising process. I think she shows us all these metaphors to show us that is important to try and pick at least one metaphor and try and tie it into our papers.
WAW
1. During the research they are having an interview so it may be easier to tell if they are telling you false information where as the former they have had time to make up an answer.
2. If you turn all your focus to having a metaphor in your paper to compare 2 things than you may miss out on all the other important information that you should have in your paper. A way of getting around this problem would be to consider tying in a metaphor in just a paragraph and avoid turning all your focus to it.
3. The only metaphor that I can somewhat connect with is the refining the ore one because I have a tendency once I get my paper edited I have a tendency to re work a lot of things which may turn my paper into a better paper than it was before.
4. Tomlinson hasn't gone to far because it is possible that all 8 of these metaphors can come into play at different times I think it depends on what you are writing.
5. The metaphors for revision are similar to the way that I revise my papers.
Response
I found this article helpful because it showed the many ways to tie in metaphors into your paper. Some of the metaphors were a little difficult to understand but for the most part it went well together.

Berkenkotter Summary
In her article Decisions and Revisions: The planning strategies of a Published Writer, she discusses the different types of writing processes and how they work. She also discusses her writing process.
Murray Summary
In his article Response of a Laboratory Rat-or, Being Protocoled, he talks about his findings in writing and how they affect the way he writes and how he uses them in his writings. This is similar to what we have to do in our next paper.
WAW
1. My impression of Murray's writing process is that he is a very organized writer and that he compiles his thoughts together very well, he thinks about his writing process and style in his head. I have a few things in common with Murray's style of writing I do organize my writing ideas and compile them together to my best abilities but I do not think over my paper in my head before I write them down.
2. Murray's relationship with his audience is a complicated relationship because he writes to a more formal professional audience were to we write to a more informal audience such as our peers and professors. While I am writing I do consider who I am writing to but its not always in the front of my mind when I am writing.
3. Berkenkotter's writing process has changed after reading this writing because she took the ideas from Murray about compiling your ideas in your head before you write and to organize your thoughts before you write it down, also to think about your previous writings to come up with ideas for your future writings.
AEI 1
When I am writing a paper first get a paper assignment I create an outline and how I want to write my paper and the content I put into my paper, after that I start in on my paper pulling in as much research as possible to make my paper the best it can be. My level of writing experience is average I have had to do it all through grade school. My writing level and the time are spend on writing relate similarly to each other.
Meta Moments
I learned that it is important to think about your previous papers to pull forward ideas into your new thoughts for a future paper and also to look back on previous writing styles to pull into your future papers.
Response to Berkenkotter and Murray
Both these articles were very useful for us to take the time to read and will be useful for our papers in the future and to get us to use previous writing styles from the past and to pull them into our future papers.

Kleine Questions
Kleine Summary
In Kleine's article "What Is It We Do When We Write Articles Like This One" He tries to explain to you how to write and gather information to write a good research paper. He talks about his technique about being a hunter and going out and getting everything you can and than the gather complies it all together so you can create a really good research paper filled with information.
Questions 1,3,4
1. I didn't use to write the best of research papers in my first few years of high school I learned how to write better research papers by learning that a major key is being able to gather a bunch of information and knowing how to use that research correctly in your paper. His methods are similar to how I write a research paper now.
3. The sources Kleine interview plays a big role in his article because he uses their feedback for the bases of his information about students. I find that is very important when writing a research paper that it is important for you to get as many sources as possible into your writing so that you have a variety of information within your paper.
4. I basically try and follow what Kleine says it doesn't always work with every paper but I try and follow it the best I can. Maybe try and gather more information if I am a little un easy about the topic.
Kleine Response
This article helped a lot with providing useful tips for writing my next research paper. I will take the tools Kleine explains into consideration for the next paper this article was very helpful.

Homework #5
Allen Summary
In this article Sarah Allen says that writing is not something that comes naturally to you. No matter if you are a teacher or student it takes work and lots of revisions to become a good writer. You become a better writer through practice and when you go through editing sessions to figure out what you did wrong to improve so that you can become a better writer.
Response to Allen
My response to this article is partially similar to Sarah Allen's. I use to find it hard to write papers but over the years I have gotten a little bit better. For me its all about taking the criticism you are given and try and apply that to your next paper to make it better. You will probably never write a completely perfect paper after all we are humans there will be an error here and there but after you have gone through lots of revisions I think you can write the best paper you are able to.
GRR
I was taught to leave words like I, I believe ect. out of papers because you are making the article to personal and that it is best to make it as reader friendly as possibly and to not make it sound so personal.
WAW Questions
1.Murray is asking you to reconsider the construct of writing in first person form.
3. His article contains pieces of poetry and fiction also it contains past dreams and he uses previous stories that he has experienced to tie back into his writing. Murray says that all writing is autobiographical and that it is important to make your writing more personal than impersonal.
4. Murray's article ties in a poem which is typical in scholarly articles. He also does the same thing as other writers just not as much as others he collects work from other authors to compile it into his own work.
5. His ideas have changed the way I view writing because teachers also pounded it into our heads that we were to write less personally and more impersonally and after reading this article he proved that statement un true. Murray's writing encouraged me to write more personally again all through high school I was told to not write personally but in turn writing personally can be useful in writing a good paper too.
Meta Moments
A few things I will take from Murray is that it is okay to write personally and that you should incorporate previous events and stories into your writing to write a better paper than you would if you just wrote it from a completely impersonal standpoint.
Murray Reflection
I found this writing interesting and very helpful because it showed me that what I was told in high school about writing wasn't completely true because you have to add some personality to your writing because not all writing is fictional.
Dawkins Summary
In this article "Teaching Punctuation as a Rhetorical Tool" Dawkins tries to explain that punctuation rules were meant to be broken. We are aware of a lot of punctuation rules but a lot of those rules were never explained well so we do not know truly how to use them.
GRR
1. My sisters tree house was made of wood scraps and cardboard, it was a great place to play with friends.
2. My sister's tree house was a great place to play with friends; it was made out of wood scraps and cardboard.
3. The tree house was made of wood scraps and cardboard, it was a great place for my sister and her friends to play.
WAW Questions
2. Handbook rules provide no instruction for the use of a comma, there are no rules for punctuating an independent clause, Punctuation is based on how much emphasis is put into punctuation.
3. The principle of raising and lowering is the higher the mark the greater the emphasis you need to place on punctuation. This impacts you choice of punctuation because based on the words you use and your punctuation is how much emphasis will be place on it and it also shows the affect it holds within the sentence.
5. That the author bases the emphasis on punctuation based on how it is used within there writings. I feel that every thing discussed in this article has for the most part already been taught to me.
6. When I am writing a paper I know that punctuation is important but I mainly focus on the content not so much the punctuation within the content. Dawkins writing has made me think a little bit more about my punctuation within my writing but I feel like I will still mainly just focus on the content but I will probably pay a little more attention to the punctuation now after reading this article.
Meat Moments
Our professor probably wanted us to read this article so we could see the emphasis that is placed on punctuation because they are probably aware of the fact that punctuation wasn't as important in high school as it should be now. After reading this article I will consider punctuation more into my writings than just plain writing the paper and going along with the traditional standard punctuation.
Dawkins Reflection
After reading Dawkins article I found the information to be very useful for my future writings but it was somewhat hard to read at times and repetitive but I think it was repetitive to in still the fact that grammar is important. In the long run I will take what I have learned from this article and bring it forward to use in my papers to come.

Steadman Article
Summary
In the article "Annoying Ways People Use Sources" Steadman talks about how he gets annoyed with people who do not correctly site there sources and do not know how to use citations and quotations and how to site sources correctly in his article it explains how to fix these errors that most people frequently put into there papers.
Questions
1.Steadman, Greene, Kantz, & Porter all care about the same things they just want everyone and anyone to be able to understand the information that they are putting out there that way there can make everyone a better writer. The only thing that I feel that Steadman talks about that not any of the other people talked about was sources.
2. In the past we were always told to use a variety of sources and that you should always cite them in a certain format. But I do not think that we ever correctly learned how to cite we learned the way that our old teachers wanted us to cite.
3. Yes my views have been changed after reading Steadman's article I now understand what wasn't explained to me in high school about how to correctly cite my sources. I use to just think that it was stupid and time consuming but its important to give the author's whom worked you used credit.
Response
I feel like I took a lot from this article now being able to correctly cite my sources in my paper will make my writing a lot easier and in turn it will look more professional. Being able to correctly site sources is an important aspect of being able to write a paper, after reading this article it will be a useful tool to look back on to make sure I do not make the same citing mistakes as I have made in the past.

GRR, QD 2-6, & MM
Summary
In Porter's article intertextuality in a dispersed community he explains that not one author fully writes his or her own book they pull in ideas from other authors to compile into their own writings to make their writings better than they would have originally been without the thoughts of others.
Getting Ready to Read
I get ideas, feedback, and assistance from friends, professors, students, previous edited and graded papers.
Questions for Discussion and Journaling
2. I somewhat agree with what Porter says about intertext and that it makes some individuals less important, but on the flip side of that I think intertext is an important tool to write something worth while because the collaboration of many others writing combined to make your own writing makes your writing what it is. But some of the intertext does make certain authors ideas less important from the 3 different documents the author compared.
3. The dictionary definition of autonomous says not subject to control from outside; independent. Porter call an autonomous writer romantic because they say the romantic image of a writer as free, uninhibited spirit, as independent creative genius.
4. Before reading this article I did not consider that writers combined their writing together via intertext before their work is evaluated for others to read. My writing in the past has been evaluated through peer editing and my teachers grading my papers and before it was all about the letter grade. Now your paper is evaluated on context and combining all of these sources to get a good paper.
5. Porter's writing reflect the principles of his writing because intertextuality means that all texts draws at least some information from others texts, therefore not all of his work was his own original work. So that one author created some of the information and that he may pull those ideas into his paper.
6. The problem caused is that not just one author can write something authors pull in many ideas into their writings to come up with there own writings. The example given in the book says that Elaine even still believes after all her findings that the Declaration of Independence was written only by Thomas Jefferson and after the findings in this book says that everyone who writes pulls in ideas from other authors.
Meta Moments
Yes because now I see that not all authors ideas that they put into there writings were all there own thoughts and that they pull in ideas via other authors. Yes, because now I see that its important to look at a bunch of different sources to compile a bunch of ideas before you decide to sit down and write a paper.
Reflect
Because of reading this article I now see the importance of pulling in many different authors works to compile the best paper you can because it is important to have your paper packed full of information but you have to consider that you need you use lots of different types of sources and authors to create your best paper.

WAW 1-3 & 6 and Meta Moments
I believe that rhetoric/rhetorical mean rhetoric is making people believe the same thing that you do and rhetorical is stating your point with facts to back it up and being able to defend your point to others.
When reading academic articles rhetoric falls into place because the author is trying to get you to see there point of view from the article and not anyone else.
1. Kantz contends that facts are actually claims such as what you read in a textbook, opinions are what one person believes or thinks based on disagreements and arguments, and arguments are all claims because everyone has their own opinion about a certain situation or argument.
2. Many students misunderstand sources because they read them as stories
- I disagree with this because I think that students know how to site there sources when they read them they just don't know how to always correctly cite them.
- I definitely think this is true because students always expect everything they read to be true and you can't always trust what you are reading to always be correct.
- I believe this statement to be true because the authors are trying to get the students to only see one side of the story and not all the sides.
6. Yes after reading this Kantz has shown me that you can not take what information you are given and hold it to the highest of standards you need to look around and find a variety of information because different authors will try and get you to only believe one side and not the others.
Meta Moment
Constructs are things built around peoples ideas and concepts are things people already have opinions about. It is useful to understand her findings and claims because she is showing you a different view about writing and how to write based on what we have done in the past and knowing that not everything you read is a fact and that it can not be taken for all that it is worth.

Response to WAW Intro & Green
1. We need to be able to read others work so that we can be able to discuss problems, conflicts, and questions that occur among the text. Reading plays an important role because we can voice our own opinions about the information we are reading in the text. Reading is key to understanding the research behind the text.
2. Writing is based on a continuation of arguments and without the arguments of others to know what they thought about your reading you will never know where to go from there and how to improve your reading for the future. Burke says this twice to reiterate the fact that you need to have continuing arguments over your reading, the more eyes you let see your writing the better it can be improved for the future.
3. Framing helps to think about what the argument will be and how to defend it to your audience. The metaphor says that the authors want us to see the world through one view and not see it any other way they want you to believe what they believe and that there is no other way to see. Green says that framing encourages you to define and defend your agreement to others, in turn you organize your thoughts through framing and it helps you to create counterarguments to defend yourself and be able to engage in conversations with your critics. Framing allows a write to make the audience view something from only one perspective.
Applying & Exploring Ideas
2. Greens article represents a conversation because he covers all questions that you may ask about the reading. He is having a conversation with mainly college students and other people who may in counter his book. He frames his argument by being willing to take on any questions from people who are willing to challenge his writing and being willing to re write his book to better the writings for people whom will read it in the future. Green does practice what he preaches because he is willing to criticize others and in turn he likes to be criticized by others so that while he is helping to better other people he is also being bettered as a writer.

What Writing Means to me
Writing is a meaningful way to put your thoughts into words about a subject you are passionate about or something that is interesting to you. I enjoy writing about topics that interest me but I find it challenging to write about topics I do not understand or comprehend well. My favorite type of papers to write are research papers.
